I am Woman, Hear me Roll (my dice)
Overcoming the stereotypes in gaming
by Melissa Walsh

For men who needs some tips on dealing with women at the gaming table:

  • don't assume I game only to appease my Significant Other.
  • don't assume I or my character needs special treatment only because I am female.
  • don't assume my character wants to hook up with your character. No, that wouldn't be cool.

Female gamers need to help too. Other women who are on the fence about gaming are more likely to play if another lady is at the table.  Be supportive of other women who show an interest in gaming.  Groups like Ladies of Hack should be a source of support for experienced women gamers as well as girls and women who are new to the hobby.

We need to do what we can to shake the male-only image that gaming receives.
